Our school day for our Nursery:

Our school offers a variety of wrap-around care for children including:

Breakfast Club - 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. 

Nursery After School Club - 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Reception - Year 6 After School Club 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Safety at the start and end of the school day: 

The beginning and end of the school day is a busy time, and our aim is to ensure pupils enter school and are dismissed carefully, under strict supervision, collected on time and arrive home safely.

At the start of the school day:

School starts at 8:45. Gates open at 8:30 until 9:00 a.m. All pupils must be in school and seated in their classrooms BEFORE 8:50 (Nursery before 9:00 a.m.). Any pupils arriving at the school gates after 8:50 or after, will need to sign in and be marked in as ‘late’ at the school office.  For safety reasons, no child should arrive at school before 8.45 a.m. (unless they are attending the Breakfast Club) as staff are not available to supervise them before this time.

At the end of the school day:

School finishes at 3:30 p.m. (Nursery - 3:00 p.m.) Gates open between 2:55 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. After 3:40 pm, pupils will be taken to and can be collected as ‘late’ from the school office. Pupils must be collected by 3:45 p.m. at the very latest.

In the event that a child is not collected by an authorised adult, we will ensure the situation can be resolved as quickly as possible to cause as little distress as possible to the child. 

The Authorised Adult

  • The Authorised Adult must be a responsible person aged 16 years or over. The person may be a; Parent/Carer
  • Family member
  • Child minder
  • Neighbour
  • Someone over the age of 16 who has the parent/carer’s written permission to collect the child from school.

Verbal consent can be accepted in emergency situations. Infant children (those in Nursery, Reception, Y1 and Y2) may NOT be collected by other brothers or sisters in school. They should be collected by an authorised adult. Teachers have been instructed NOT to release infant children to siblings from the upper year groups. The school office will contact parents/carers to ensure they are collected by an authorised adult.

Non-collection of Pupils:

Where a pupil is not collected as part of the normal collection routine, the Headteacher or person nominated by them will contact the parents, carer or other authorised person to collect the child. The child will not be allowed to leave with anyone other than those named (this includes members of staff).

The child must stay with two members of staff at school until they are safely collected by the parent/carer or social worker.

The protocol below will be followed:

15 minutes after non-collection at the normal time

Call pupil’s emergency contact numbers in hierarchical order.

30 minutes after non-collection at the normal time

Continue to make repeated attempts to contact the normal emergency contact numbers provided by the parent/carer.

1 hour after non-collection at normal time

Telephone Children’s Services Safeguarding Hub on 0333 2401727 and seek further advice, providing the pupil’s name, age and the details of all provided contact numbers.

A full written report of the incident will be recorded and held. Ofsted will be made aware of any serious childcare incidents but usually only if the Police or Children’s Services are involved and concerns remain for a child’s welfare

Children Walking Home Alone 

Parents must ensure that they have completed the consent slip for children in years 3,4,5 and 6 pupils for them to be able to walk home unaccompanied.  This is sent to parents via our parentmail app at the start of each year.

These names are recorded and the class teachers will only allow these pupils to leave the site without an adult. Other pupils will remain with their class teacher until a known adult collects them. Government guidelines advise that children below 10 Years of age should not be allowed to walk home unaccompanied. This is at the parents’ discretion.  Parents should inform the school office of any changes to permissions if they occur.
